Race Jibe

Level 2IntermediateFlat water

About this trick

The race jibe is the most efficient way to change direction on foil. Unlike the freestyle jibe which uses a carved arc, the race jibe is tighter and faster — you enter with more speed, carve a shorter arc, and exit immediately powered up with almost no speed loss. It's essential for any racing or performance riding.

Key tips

  1. 1

Enter fast — in a race jibe, speed is your friend; don't slow down before turning

  2. 2

Carve a tight arc (think: a quick U-turn, not a wide sweeping curve)

  3. 3

Sheet in aggressively on exit to regain power instantly — the wing should be pulling hard as soon as you've switched feet

  4. 4

Keep the foil high throughout — touching down mid-jibe costs enormous speed
