Foil Slide

Level 3AdvancedFlat waterWaves

About this trick

The foil slide involves intentionally bringing the board down to the water surface and sliding it sideways — the foil acts as a fin rather than a lifting surface. It's visually impressive (lots of spray) and requires careful weight management to keep it sliding without diving. Often performed at the end of a wave ride or between foil moves.

Key tips

  1. 1

Reduce foil height until the board touches the water, then apply lateral pressure to initiate the slide

  2. 2

Keep the wing generating moderate power — too much and you'll accelerate out of the slide; too little and you stop

  3. 3

The slide direction is controlled by your edge: heelside or toeside determines which way you slide

  4. 4

Exit the slide by shifting weight back to re-lift the foil — smooth, not sudden
