The push tack is a tack variation where instead of stepping around the front of the wing, you push the mast away from you to complete the direction change. This keeps your body in a more stable position during the head-to-wind phase and can be faster in certain conditions. It requires confidence in tacking and good spatial awareness of the mast position.
Build speed before initiating — the push tack has even less margin for speed loss than a regular tack
The push happens as you reach head-to-wind: extend the front arm to push the leading edge across
Don't over-push — a gentle, controlled push is enough; forcing it can flip the wing
Practice the arm motion on land to build muscle memory before attempting on water
