Wingfoil · Damien LeRoy
Wave riding on a wingfoil is fundamentally different from flat water riding. Waves provide energy that supplements or even replaces the wing — you can depower completely and surf the wave on foil. Learning to read waves, position yourself, and catch them is an entirely new skill set that takes time but rewards you with some of the most incredible feelings in watersports.
Start on small, clean waves — big, powerful surf is unpredictable and dangerous for beginners
Position yourself just behind the peak where the wave starts to break
As the wave lifts the tail, depower the wing slightly and let the wave's energy push you
Look down the face of the wave, not at your feet — your body will follow your eyes
