Before you ever step onto the water you need to know your gear inside out. Damien LeRoy walks you through everything in his Wing Foil Master Class — inflating the wing, assembling the foil mast and fuselage, and mounting everything on the board safely. Getting this right from the start builds the habit of a proper pre-session check.

Key tips

   Inflate the wing to the manufacturer's recommended PSI — too soft and it collapses, too hard and it's hard to handle

   Always rinse the foil connection points with fresh water after every session to prevent corrosion

3. 3

   Check that all bolts are tight before launching — a loose foil in the water is dangerous

4. 4

   Lay the wing downwind on the beach so it doesn't catch wind and drag you while you set up the board
