Wingfoil · Damien LeRoy
Tacking on foil is significantly harder than jibing because you lose wing power as you turn through the wind. The foil needs to carry you through the neutral zone on momentum alone, and if you slow down too much you'll sink back into the water. It requires commitment, good timing, and a fast foot switch.
Build maximum speed before the tack — you need the inertia to carry you through the head-to-wind moment
Keep weight forward during the turn to maintain foil speed — backing off stalls the foil
The wing flip happens as you come out of the wind — don't rush it; complete the body rotation first
Practice the foot switch motion on flat ground first — the timing needs to be instinctive
