Standing Up & Riding

Level 1BeginnerFlat water

About this trick

Standing up on a moving board while holding a wing is the first real physical challenge of wingfoiling. The board is still in the water here — you're not foiling yet — but your stance, weight distribution, and wing position all need to be coordinated. Damien's onboard footage shows you exactly what to look for and what to fix.

Key tips

  1. 1

Get to your feet in one smooth motion: front foot first, then bring the back foot to its position

  2. 2

Stance width is roughly shoulder-width; front foot points slightly forward, back foot across the board

  3. 3

Bend your knees — a low center of gravity absorbs wobbles that would otherwise knock you off

  4. 4

Sheet out as you stand up so the wing doesn't pull you off balance while you find your feet
