Reinoud hitting a wave on his windsurf board at Domburg

Reinoud

I started windsurfing at thirteen and never really stopped. Surfing with friends, road trips to Bretagne, Hanstholm, Wissant. Surfing in Schiermonnikoog from Lauwersoog, and several trips around the world, from Chile to Lakey Peak, Morocco to Cape Town. Lived two years combined in Cape Town, living in Muiderberg in the Netherlands now, 50 meters from the IJmeer, with two kids and a girlfriend that seem to become hooked to watersports as well. Teaching them to windsurf at Muiderberg, which is exactly how it started for me.

Wingfoiling has been my main passion for the past two years. Nothing beats it. When it blows properly hard I still reach for the windsurf gear, because that remains my old love. I kited for years too and still get out sporadically, mostly strapless in waves. Wingfoiling is so addictive and easy, you can take it anywhere and start from anywhere, with such little wind, and then have great fun. With climate changing to less frequent winds from the south west, wingfoiling has been a real treat for me and other surfers.

Most of my sessions are close to home: Wijk aan Zee on the North Sea, and Muiden and Almere Poort on the IJmeer and Gooimeer. Several times a year I head down to Zeeland, where Ouddorp, Domburg and the Brouwersdam are my regular stops.
