“Trade winds typically pick up mid morning and blow through until evening from May to October, strongest around 1 to 3pm. The sandy launch is easy but cross the reef at the water's edge carefully, easiest at mid to high tide. In winter, NW swell creates a wave playground for those who can ride upwind. Plenty of schools and rental shops operate from the beach. Town centre is a five minute walk with loads of food options. The bay has three launches. Waikiki (Playa de la Goleta on Google Maps) is the most central and easiest. Sunset Beach just north has cleaner wind and more space. Las Agujas further north is more exposed, with stronger wind and more chop, for intermediate and advanced wingers. Booties help on the sharp reef. Stay clear of the ferry lane to Lobos and do not drift into the channel towards the island, the current there is strong. Street parking near Waikiki fills up quickly in summer.”
