As Furnas is the wild beach break that put southern Costa da Morte on the wave map, a two and a half kilometre arc of sand and slate facing straight into the Atlantic. Multiple peaks with both lefts and rights light up on NW swell, and the GWA Wingfoil Qualifying Series chose this beach for its surf freestyle days in 2022. Currents run strong on bigger days and the lineup rewards experienced riders. Sunsets here are among the most dramatic in Galicia.
“Park at the gravel lot behind the boardwalk and pick your peak by walking the length of the beach, the better sandbanks shift seasonally. Stay clear of the slate reef pools at low tide and watch the rip that pulls out along the south end. The beach bar A Furna serves food in summer and a campsite sits 200 metres back. Best on a dropping mid tide with offshore morning glass before the afternoon onshore.”
