Torre Grande sits on Sardinia's Sinis peninsula at the edge of Oristano Gulf, a sheltered bay where northwest thermal winds build consistently from April through September at 15 to 18 knots. The water runs flat to choppy over a sandy bottom with gradual depth, making it one of the island's best spots for progression. Home to Windacademy Sardinia, where U19 world champions Nicolò and Maddalena Spanu learned to fly.
“Thermal northwest wind typically arrives between noon and 2pm and holds for four to six hours. The gulf is very shallow close to shore, ideal for first flights and learning. Windacademy operates on the beach with a full rental fleet. Head north along the beach for more wind and less foot traffic in summer. Parking is free and ample along the beachfront road.”
