Samos – Kokkari Bay
Kokkari, Samos, Greece

Mount Karvounis rises to 1153 metres just behind Kokkari and forces the sea breeze into something stronger than the surrounding area. Even without the Meltemi, the thermal builds reliably at 20 to 35 knots from the northwest, April through October. A bay with a mountain backdrop unlike anywhere else in the Aegean. Windsurfing is the main activity on site but wingfoil is fully possible. Gusty near the cliffs, so stay aware.
Best months: April, May, June, July, August, September, October
Wind directions: NW
Water: Chop, Waves
Bottom: Sand
Sports: Wingfoil, Windsurf
Local tips
Wind can be gusty near the cliff faces that flank the bay, so stay away from the edges and keep your upwind position. The mountain thermal builds quickly once the sun is up. The village has a playground right at the windsurf centre. Tabou and Gaastra gear on site. English and German spoken at the school. A second YouTube video gives a good look at wave conditions.
