About this spot
Three bays in one location, each a different story. Chicken Bay is the sheltered horseshoe for beginners and freestyle, with cross-offshore Meltemi at 10 to 20 knots and flat shallow water 80 metres from shore. Gun Bay around the headland sees the same wind amplified, regularly hitting 35 to 40 knots in high summer. Karpathos is an uncovered corner of the Aegean that rewards the riders who make the trip.

“Chicken Bay is the place for learning and freestyle, Gun Bay is for riders who want more power. Walk between the two bays in five minutes. Kitesurfing is prohibited on the leeward Afiartis side during school operating hours. Naish and Duotone gear available from two different centres. Getting to Karpathos requires a ferry or direct flight but the conditions are worth the effort.”
