Urville-Nacqueville is a three kilometre beach on the north Cotentin coast near Cherbourg, home to the Pole Nautique de la Hague school and its wingfoil, kitesurf and windsurf lessons. A headland accelerates west and northwest wind beyond neighbouring beaches, while northeasterly swell can build waves for jumping and riding. Ebbing tide flattens the water for learning, and flooding tide brings chop, making this a rare Normandy spot that rewards both beginners and experienced riders.
“Watch for rocks that surface at low tide on big coefficients, including one directly off the nautical club, so check the tide table before launching. West to northwest wind above 20 knots gives the most stable, powerful sessions. Free parking sits about 150 metres from the beach, and lifeguards supervise a swim zone in July and August. Camping Le Cormoran is right on the sea for an easy overnight stay.”
