Wingfoiling in Saint-Martin-de-Bréhal

Saint-Martin-de-Bréhal is a long west facing sand beach on the west coast of the Cotentin, a few kilometres north of Granville. Westerly winds blow side onshore here, with northwest and southwest also working. The 8 Milles Nautic base on the beach runs wingfoil courses and rental, and the beach is one of the race venues of the 2026 French Kiteboard and Wingfoil Championships. The tidal range is among the largest in Europe, so the waterline moves a long way between tides.

Local tips

“Plan around the tide: at low tide the sea retreats very far over flat sand, so most wingers ride from mid tide up to high tide. East and southeast winds blow offshore here; stay off the water then. Check the 8 Milles Nautic webcam before driving. In July and August keep clear of the supervised bathing zone. Granville, with its old town, port and restaurants, is about fifteen minutes by car.”
