La Lieue de Grève

Saint-Michel-en-Grève, France

About this spot

Raw and tidal, La Lieue de Grève is a broad 4 km stretch of north Breton coastline that transforms with every tide. At low water the exposed sand fills with kites, sand yachts and foils; when the flood returns, chop and small waves take over. The Saint Michel side draws beginner surfers seeking gentle swell, making this one of Brittany's most versatile and uncovered wind and wave spots.

Local tips

Check tide tables before heading out as the beach shrinks significantly at high water. Parking is available at both ends of the beach. Afternoon sea breeze often boosts the wind on sunny days. Summer weekends can get crowded with families so early morning sessions are your best bet in July and August.
