Balistra

Balistra, Porto-Vecchio, Corsica, France

About this spot

Balistra is a raw gem on the southern tip of Corsica near the Strait of Bonifacio. The sandy bay is sheltered by rocky headlands, producing flat to light chop and a consistent cross shore maestrale from the northwest. Wind builds from late morning through the afternoon. The setting is wild, facilities minimal, and the water is some of the clearest in the Mediterranean. Best from May through September.

Local tips

Park at the end of the piste past the hamlet. The maestrale peaks between 13:00 and 17:00. No facilities on site so bring water and food. Entry is easiest at the northern part of the beach. Check depth near the southern rocks before launching at low tide.
