Tacking means turning the nose of the board through the wind (the upwind direction). It's harder than a jibe because you lose power from the wing during the turn — there's a moment when the wing is directly upwind and generates nothing. You need to move quickly through that neutral zone or you'll stall.
Sheet in and build speed before initiating — you need momentum to carry you through the neutral zone
As you turn through head-to-wind, duck under or step around the front of the wing
Move your feet quickly — hesitating in the middle of a tack means losing all power and stopping
A successful tack feels fast; a slow tack is a swim — practice accelerating the footwork
