Bigbury-on-Sea
Bigbury-on-Sea, Bigbury Bay, South Devon, United Kingdom

Bigbury-on-Sea sits on the south Devon coast about 20 kilometres southeast of Plymouth, facing a broad south-facing bay. East and northeast winds funnel down the river valley and accelerate along the beach, producing fast flat water near the estuary mouth and quality wave riding in easterly swell. Some of the best port tack wave wingfoiling in England on a good day, with Burgh Island providing a famous landmark offshore at low tide. There is another nice spot called Ledner Sands nearby, worth the visit!
Best months: March, April, May, September, October, November
Wind directions: E, NE, SE
Water: Waves, Chop
Bottom: Sand
Sports: Wingfoil, Kitesurf, Windsurf
Local tips
Low to mid tide is best, avoid two hours either side of high tide when the beach shrinks. The valley funnel effect can add 5 to 10 knots to the forecast wind speed on sunny easterly days.
