Yzerfontein
Yzerfontein, West Coast, South Africa, South Africa

Yzerfontein sits 50 kilometres north of Cape Town on the wild Atlantic West Coast, where the SE Cape Doctor blows slightly softer than further south, making it a favourite for kite schools and lighter wind sessions. A large sandy beach backed by low dunes provides consistent wind and organised waves for advanced riders. Quieter than the Cape Town corridor with a rugged, unspoiled West Coast feel.
Best months: November, December, January, February, March
Wind directions: SE, S
Water: Chop, Waves
Bottom: Sand
Sports: Wingfoil, Kitesurf, Windsurf
Local tips
Take the R27 and exit at the Yzerfontein signs. Less crowded than the Blouberg spots. The SE blows lighter here: good for learning. South west wind can push decent swell from the Atlantic.
