Witsands is a dramatic beach nestled between tall sand dunes south of Scarborough on Cape Town's Atlantic seaboard. The SE Cape Doctor channels through the dunes and drives powerful organised waves that can reach six metres when conditions stack. “Launching through the shore break is the main challenge: time your exit carefully. Waves can stack to 6 metres when a big swell meets the Cape Doctor. No lifeguards and no facilities beyond roadside parking. Expert riders only when the swell is up.”
