Wingfoil spot Baie de L'Embouchure in Galion Beach, Baie de L'Embouchure, Saint-Martin, Saint Martin

Baie de L'Embouchure, also known as Galion Beach, is a protected lagoon inside Saint Martin's natural reserve south of Orient Bay. More than a kilometre long and 500 metres wide, this translucent shallow bay is shielded by a coral reef and catches consistent northeast to east trade winds peaking in the morning. Kiting is banned here by municipal ordinance — making it a calm and genuinely uncrowded sanctuary for wingfoilers away from the resort crowds.

Best months: December, January, February, March, April, May, June

Wind directions: NE, E, SE

Water: Flat, Chop

Bottom: Sand, Seagrass, Reef

Sports: Wingfoil, Windsurf

Local tips

Wind is strongest between 9 am and noon with a natural venturi effect. The bay is part of a protected nature reserve — do not anchor on seagrass beds.
