About this spot
Vila Nova de Milfontes sits where the Rio Mira meets the Atlantic on Portugal's wild Alentejo coast. The river mouth carves a sheltered lagoon of flat to chop water, perfect on summer Nortada days when the sandbars outside go to waves. Riders can pick their playground inside or out. Pretty whitewashed town on the cliff, cafes, schools, and one of the most laid back wing destinations on the Portuguese coast.

“Launch from Praia das Furnas on the south bank or the river beach on the town side at lower tides. Nortada pumps strongest in afternoon, summer through early autumn. Watch the river current on outgoing tide, especially at the mouth. Town has wing and surf schools, supermarkets, restaurants, all walking distance from both river launches.”
