Martinhal is a beautiful sheltered bay near Sagres on Portugal's southwestern tip, offering surprisingly manageable conditions given its location near one of Europe's windiest capes. The bay is partially protected from the Atlantic swell while still catching the powerful N wind, creating fast, choppy runs with occasional wave action.
“Sagres is exposed to extreme conditions — Martinhal is the most sheltered bay in the area. When the N wind exceeds 25 knots, conditions deteriorate quickly. If you are looking for waves, you need to go around the corner, to for example Tonel”
