Canal de Murtosa

The Canal de Murtosa is a sheltered lagoon channel within the Ria de Aveiro wetland, roughly 10 kilometres from Aveiro and 40 kilometres south of Porto. Shallow flat water and reliable Nortada northerly thermals from spring through summer create near-perfect wingfoil learning conditions, with water temperatures reaching 23 to 26 degrees at the height of season. Clube Nortada runs a full watersports base with rental and professional coaching. A uniquely calm inland gem.

Local tips
The lagoon is tidal but stays shallow year round — very forgiving for beginners falling off foil. Wind typically peaks in the afternoon. Weekdays are much quieter than summer weekends.
