Larkollen

Larkollen, Østfold, Norway

About this spot

Larkollen South sits on the eastern shore of the outer Oslofjord, a sandy beach tucked behind the islet locals call Little Denmark. Southwesterly winds dominate the warm months and arrive cleanly over open water from May through September, often building into proper waves on the outside. Inside the bay the surface stays mirror flat under high pressure, perfect for early foil flights. The hamlet is a beloved summer escape with painted boathouses and ice cream stands lining the shore.

Local tips

Launch from the main beach south of the campsite and stay upwind, the bay is narrow and downwind drift ends in rocks. Best water levels come with low barometric pressure, which also brings the waves outside the headland. Parking fills fast on sunny summer weekends so arrive early. Watch for swimmers and small sailboats inside the bay and give kiters priority on the outside. The local café serves strong coffee and waffles for after the session.
