Jæren Coast
Klepp, Rogaland, Norway

The Jæren coast unfurls as a long ribbon of pale sand beaches facing the open North Sea south of Stavanger, with Bore and Sola the headline launches. Westerlies and northwesterlies pump through almost every month of the year, building thick punchy swell and giving wave riders a near guaranteed playground from April through October. The sand bottom is forgiving but the surf can stack up fast when low pressure systems roll across the Atlantic. Endless dunes, sheep grazing the heath and a string of cosy surf cafés give the region a real Nordic surf town vibe.
Best months: April, May, June, July, August, September, October
Wind directions: W, NW, SW
Level: Intermediate, Advanced
Water: Waves, Chop
Bottom: Sand
Sports: Wingfoil, Kiting, Windsurfing, Surfing
Local tips
Park at the marked beach lots at Bore, Borestranda or Refsnes and use the boardwalks across the dunes. The shorebreak can be heavy so time your launch and landing between sets. Strong rip currents form in onshore conditions, always identify your exit point before heading out. In summer the beach is shared with swimmers so kite outside the marked zones. Several surf shops and cafés near Bore stock wetsuits and serve coffee, and Stavanger sits twenty minutes north for full amenities.
