About this spot
The Zuidlaardermeer stretches between Hoogezand and Zuidlaren and is the largest lake in Drenthe at 671 hectares. It is the friendliest surf water in the north, with a relaxed crowd, a sandy beach at Meerwijck on the north shore and a grass launch on the south side. Two launches mean there is nearly always a side that works, and the wide open surface gives long reaches once you are out.

“The lake has two launches. Meerwijck on the north shore is the beach side, and the grass launch sits on the south. With south wind you go to the beach side and with north wind you go to the grass side, so you are always launching onshore. Both have parking close to the water and space to rig on grass, and there is a drying rack for your sail. Restaurants, toilets and showers make it easy to stay all day.”
