Oudeschild, Texel, Waddenzee, Netherlands
Dijkmanshuizen is on the Waddenzee side of Texel, north of Oudeschild, and is the only place on the Wadden side of the island where the municipality allows kitesurfing. It works in east, southeast and south wind, when the North Sea coast of Texel is offshore. The water is shallow with short chop and hardly any current. At high tide the small beach disappears, and you launch from the field behind it.
“Kitesurfing is allowed here only from 1 April to 1 October, and nowhere else on the Texel Wadden coast. Launch from the small beach at lower water; at high tide use the field behind it, where space is tight. The bottom has sharp shells, so wear boots. There is no food, toilet or shower at the spot, so bring what you need. Take care in offshore wind and keep clear of other water users.”
