Stavenisse

Stavenisse, Oosterschelde, Netherlands

About this spot

Stavenisse lies on the southwest tip of Tholen, on the Oosterschelde opposite Schouwen Duiveland. The spot is the dike and small beach across from Camping Stavenisse, west of the village. It works from southeast through west to northwest. The water is salt and tidal, flat to choppy depending on the wind, and is best ridden in the hours around high tide. Large sand and mud flats appear at low water.

Local tips

“Use the stretch along the dike path opposite Camping Stavenisse on Scheldseweg. Ride around high tide; at low water the flats dry out and there is little water left near the shore. The Oosterschelde is a Natura 2000 area and kitesurfing is only allowed in designated zones; Stavenisse is not on the 2017 Rijkswaterstaat list or the NKV spot map, so check the current rules before you kite. The water has drift danger.”
