Schokkerhaven sits on the Ketelmeer, directly adjacent to the IJsselmeer, between the Noordoostpolder and Flevoland. The spot is protected by two piers framing a sandy beach, creating extremely calm water — almost as smooth as glass, giving "laboratory conditions" that are ideal for technique practice and beginners. It is ideally located for wind from the west to south-west, which is also the prevailing regional wind direction, so conditions are consistent. Wind here is never extreme thanks to the sheltered location on the Ketelmeer. The smooth water makes it well suited to beginners, intermediates, and freestylers, and particularly good for honing jibing technique.
“Entry is via a sandy beach with about 20 meters of carrying distance before reaching deep water — stay within the buoy-marked bathing area until you're clear of it. Watch for commercial vessel traffic, which has right of way, and keep clear of the piers, where large stones can damage equipment. Free parking is available with no height restrictions, plus a meadow for rigging up, toilets, and a café/restaurant. A mobile wingfoil school also operates at the location. Park properly, no overnight camping, and respect bathers and other users.”
