The Reeuwijkse Plassen near Gouda are a maze of peat lakes, and the open water of Broekvelden and Vettenbroek is the piece that matters for wind sports. Windsurfclub Reeuwijk sits on the shore of this clear, flat lake in the Reeuwijkse Hout nature area. South through north wind blows straight down the water and gives long, clean reaches, which makes it a friendly place to learn freeride and freestyle.
“Broekvelden and Vettenbroek is the lake set up for wind sports, not the smaller peat plassen next door. Wind from south, southeast, east, northeast and north all work well. Westerly directions blow offshore and can leave you drifting to the far bank, so keep them for stronger days. The club has changing rooms for members, and there are public toilets, a first aid post and a rescue boat on site. The water is clear and stays refreshingly clean.”
