Petten
Petten, Netherlands, Netherlands

The nuclear reactor silhouette is surreal, but don't let it put you off. Petten is a seriously underrated wave spot with consistent south westerlies and almost zero crowds. The wide beach has great exposure to the full North Sea fetch, and the rolling swell can be surprisingly punchy. Advanced-only, but the reward is a raw, powerful session with practically no one watching.

Local tips
One of the emptiest beaches on the coast. No facilities beyond summer. Petten Kitesurfschool can advise on local conditions. Best: autumn westerly storm sessions.
