Paterswoldsemeer, Haren, Netherlands
The Paterswoldsemeer lies right on the edge of the city of Groningen, between Haren and Eelde, and is the everyday water for the northern wind sports crowd. The lake is compact and sheltered, with a swimming beach, a lawn and a surf beach at De Lijte on the south side. It is where most people in the region take their first wingfoil lesson, and the Hoornsemeer connects directly for extra space.
“De Lijte on the south shore is the surf beach that locals use, and there is a jetty and small sandy beach along the Meerweg for the swimming side. Southwest through north work best. Wingfoil Groningen teaches here whenever the wind suits and moves to the Zuidlaardermeer, Lauwersmeer or Oldambtmeer when it does not. The lake is small and busy with sailing traffic in summer, so keep clear of the club fleets and cross to the Hoornsemeer for more room.”
