Oranjeplaat

Oranjeplaat, Veerse Meer, Netherlands

About this spot

Oranjeplaat sits in a sheltered bend of the Veerse Meer near Lewedorp in Zeeland, a favourite among windsurfers and wingfoilers of all levels. Northeast and east wind bring smooth, longer swells, while north and northwest wind add more chop, and southwest wind is blocked by trees. The lake runs deep for most of its width, though the far bank turns shallow. Grassy rigging space and lakeside parking sit beside the launch, with a toilet nearby.

Local tips

Northeast and east wind gives the longest, cleanest swells at Oranjeplaat, while southwest wind rarely works because of the treeline. Park and rig on the grass beside the hotel, choosing the east or west side depending on wind direction. The lake stays over two metres deep for most of its width, so standing up is not an option, but the far bank shallows fast to around 15 centimetres, so watch your fin. A water tap next to the toilet is handy for rinsing gear afterward.
