Oesterdam near Tholen, Oosterschelde, Netherlands
The Oesterdam separates the Oosterschelde from the Schelde Rijn canal between Tholen and Rilland, near Bergen op Zoom. On the Oosterschelde side a sandy beach and rock dike face a large tidal area that is shallow and flat at high tide. It works from north round to south. NKV rates it suitable for beginners and foilers. Kiters use a buoyed zone, windsurfers have marked paths over the rocks to the water.
“Park for free on the service road along the dam, away from the access paths, and never rig on the grass verge. Kite only inside the zone marked by yellow buoys and only while sand is dry, roughly 2 hours before to 2 hours after high tide. Launch with the kite towards the water. Wear shoes because of sharp oysters, and keep sails and kites well away from the road and motorway.”
