Lauwersoog, Waddenzee, Netherlands
Lauwersoog sits on the dam between the Lauwersmeer and the Waddenzee, where the N361 runs west of the harbour. Kiters and windsurfers launch from the grass dam on the Wadden side, and the session window runs from about two hours before to two hours after high water. North and northeast winds give flat water, while west and northwest bring short chop. Expect stones near the entry, then silt and shallow sandbanks.
“Park at the car park on the dam west of Lauwersoog harbour, pump up on the grass and cross to the Wadden side. Only go out from two hours before to two hours after high water, and check the tide table first. Watch for stones, concrete blocks and wooden groyne posts at the entry. The dike makes the wind gusty close to shore. Some guides mention a June to September period inside yellow buoys, so check current rules locally.”
