Hellevoetsluis, Haringvliet, Netherlands
The Schelpenstrand lies on the Haringvliet just west of Hellevoetsluis, along the Zeedijk at Oudenhoorn. It works in south, southwest and west wind. The Haringvliet is fresh to brackish water with no noticeable tide effect, so the water is flat with short chop. NKV lists it as a beginner spot with deep water. The launch area is a mix of grass and sand with plenty of room to set up.
“Park for free at Zeedijk 8 in Oudenhoorn and walk about 400 m to the Schelpenstrand; a smaller beach lies closer to the car park. Watch out for stones on the path and where you enter the water at the small beach. The kite zone is not marked with buoys, so keep your distance from other water users. The tide hardly affects conditions here.”
