About this spot
De Mooie Nel is a sheltered inland lake in Spaarndam, just outside Haarlem, popular with wingfoilers and windsurfers. Northwest and northeast wind bring the most stable sessions, while southwest wind also works well for lessons. The lake stays shallow near the shore and opens up further out, giving beginners an easy launch and more experienced riders room to progress. A grass rigging field, changing rooms and showers keep this a relaxed, accessible spot.

“Wing Foil Haarlem and Dynamique Watersport operate from the Spaarndam side of the lake, running lessons, coaching and equipment rental for both wingfoil and windsurf. Rig up on the grass field next to the school, then launch from the shallow shoreline right there. Northwest and northeast wind tends to be the steadiest, though gusts can build through the afternoon. A local Jopen beer, named after the lake, is the traditional reward at the waterside afterward.”
