Tamarin, Mauritius

About this spot

Tamarin Bay sits on the sheltered southwest coast of Mauritius where the SE trade winds arrive reliably from May through November. The bay delivers a mix of flat water inside the lagoon and light chop further out, suiting beginners and intermediate riders alike. Beyond wingfoiling the area is famous for its spinner dolphin pods that gather in the bay each morning. A genuine local surf town with real character.

Local tips

Dolphins are present most mornings and will come close to wingfoilers. Stay calm and let them approach rather than chasing them. Wind typically fills in from late morning. The volcanic black river mouth at the southern end is the landmark for orientation. Watch for the shallow sandbar in the middle of the bay at low tide. It catches foils that drop too early.
