About this spot
La Preneuse is a quiet stretch of beach just north of Tamarin where the outer reef creates a calm lagoon suited to learning. The SE trade winds funnel through from May to November, producing flat water and steady sessions without the chop that builds at more exposed spots. The 19th century British Martello Tower standing at the south end gives La Preneuse a character unlike any other beginner spot in Mauritius.

“The Martello Tower marks the safe south boundary of the riding zone. Stay well inside the reef as the channel gap to the north sees boat and kayak traffic throughout the day. Wind here runs slightly lighter than Tamarin Bay due to the land shadow from Black River peak. Ideal for first sessions and early progression coaching. The small car park fills fast on weekends so arrive early.”
