Forggensee
Brunnen, Germany

Forggensee is Bavaria's largest reservoir, created by a dam on the Lech river near the famous Neuschwanstein Castle. A narrow peninsula at Brunnen makes the spot usable in almost any wind direction, and southerly Föhn events can bring strong, warm winds. Kiting is not officially permitted, wing and windsurf only.
Best months: May, June, July, August, September
Wind directions: W, NW, S
Water: Flat, Chop
Bottom: Pebbles, Rock
Sports: Wingfoil, Windsurf
Local tips
Launch from the Brunnen peninsula on the east shore, or from Rieden am Forggensee. Föhn from the south can reach storm strength — be cautious and check forecasts. The reservoir is partially drained in winter; season is May–September.
