Chiemsee is Bavaria's largest lake — known as the "Bavarian Sea" — with stunning Alpine panoramas on all sides. The lake is large enough to generate real chop in stronger winds and benefits from valley winds funnelling from the mountains. Wingfoil schools operate from Prien and Bernau, making it the premier Alpine lake wingfoil destination.

Like Ammersee, the Föhn can bring sudden strong gusts from the south — always check alpine weather forecasts. The lake has regular ferry services to the two islands (Herreninsel with its Versailles-inspired palace, Frauenchiemsee with its monastery). Motorboat traffic can be busy in summer.
