Alibaba breaks on the northern tip of Sal and earns its reputation as the island's heaviest wave spot. Powerful Atlantic groundswell stacks onto a shallow reef while the NE trades line it up cross offshore. The peak holds size, the rocks are sharp, and the access from shore is committing. Strictly advanced territory for riders comfortable in serious surf. On smaller days it still rewards careful timing and respect for the reef.
“Drive in via the dirt tracks north of Palmeira and scope the spot from the cliff before rigging. Best on a clean N or NW swell with classic NE trades. Wear booties, the reef is unforgiving. Never ride here alone. Closest help is back in Palmeira or Santa Maria, factor in the drive.”
