De Panne, Noordzee, Belgium
De Panne is the westernmost resort on the Belgian coast, next to the French border. Kiters, wingers and windsurfers launch from the marked zone at Side Shore Surfers, a wooden beach club in the dunes by the Leopold I Esplanade. The beach is very wide at low tide and the North Sea gives chop and small to medium waves. SW, W, NW, N and NE winds work, while offshore winds do not.
“Take a day membership at Side Shore Surfers, which includes the insurance Belgian rules require, and wear the club talis on your harness. Launch only inside the marked zone between the Leopold I Esplanade and De Rampe. Parking on the seafront is paid. Currents can be quite strong, so start against the current. In summer kite flying is banned in guarded bathing zones from 10:30 to 18:30.”
