Fuseta Beach
Fuseta, Portugal
Fuseta is a small fishing village on the eastern Algarve where a large tidal lagoon behind the barrier island of Ilha da Fuseta offers excellent flat-water wingfoil conditions. The reliable N thermal wind and warm, shallow water make this one of the Algarve's best-kept foiling secrets. You can start from Fuzeta main beach (sometime crowded and mainly kiters) or from the “Arroteia side”. See local tips. Fuzeta main beach offers food/drinks/showers. The Arroteia side doesnt have any facilities but its the better spot.
Best months: May, June, July, August, September, January, March, February, April, October, December, November
Wind directions: NW, W, E, SW, S, SE, NE, N
Water: Flat
Bottom: Sand
Sports: Wingfoil
Local tips
Very local spot. 2 spots in 1. Lagoon style when you stay inside and ocean style when you cross the island/dune (walking). Parking at east side of Fuzeta. Take exit Arroteia from the N125. Works with all wind direction. But with North winds the direction is offshore. There are sandbanks and channels. From two hours before to two hours after hightide the lagoon is deep enough. With lower tides you have to sail around the channels. With full low tide just use the channel to cross the lagoon and walk over the island/dune to sail at the seaside. Be aware of the currents and shallow parts. You have to get used to this spot but if you know how to surf it its a piece of Brazil in Europe.
